| YouTube for College Applications? |

Many creative college applicants, in an effort to improve their chance of admission in this technology-driven era, have turned to YouTube film segments.
The strategy is not ideal for everyone, however. While a YouTube video could potentially unearth brilliant insight and reveal a “hidden gem” of a student who might not otherwise be considered, it could also expose a less desirable side of an otherwise stellar student. YouTube submissions present an entirely new and exciting dynamic in the college admissions world, but careful and deliberate consideration is needed to optimize any benefit. Who should submit a YouTube video with their college application? CPSi consultants suggest those who are very competent at producing a brilliant YouTube segment to consider it, especially if they can use it to illustrate a relevant talent related to their intended field of study. In that case, submit the video to the specific department as well as to the admissions office. For students who do not have much that is new and relevant to communicate, especially those who are not competent at producing a polished video, CPSi consultants recommend skipping the option because it might adversely affect the chance of admission.
